Model viewer

A model viewer in Apps is similar to an Entity-relationship (ER) model widely used in DBMS (Database Management System). An ER model is used to create data models using the data from the database. There can be relationships established between each entity in the ER model.

Unlike an ER model, the model viewer is a visualization of all the processes, boards, and data forms created within the application and the relationship between them. Any changes to the data model of the model viewer cannot be made directly in the model viewer. Rather it’s a reflection of changes made in the forms created and looked up using the Lookup field.

For example, below is the model viewer of an IT Asset Management application.

Here, forms such as Asset Categories, Asset Complaint, Asset Master, Asset Request, etc., are the entities. Based on the relationship established between them, entities are linked to one another.
